The first thing you notice about Matt Isbell's "Rock Lotto" is the package. Keeping with the gambling theme of the title, this cardboard sleeve is adorned with slot machine symbols and guitars while the back is also a scratch-off lottery ticket which reveals the song titles. Open it up to view a slot machine complete with a guitar neck handle. You can't help but enjoy interactive packaging! "Rock Lotto" is straight, good ol' American, upbeat guitar driven Rock 'N' Roll. As soon as the CD begins to play, you automatically begin tapping your foot and bobbing your head to the infectious and danceable beat as drummer, Jim Britt, stays consistently in the pocket. It's obvious that Isbell hasn't reinvented the wheel (and I don't think he claims to), but it's also obvious that he has a handle on what good Rock 'N' Roll consists of as influences from a lot of the Rock greats from AC/DC to Beck flow throughout this CD. Each song, diverse from one end of the Rock spectrum to the other, stands as an individual and doesn't blur with the others. "Rock Lotto" is a fun CD that hooks you from the start with easily memorable choruses that will have you singing along upon the first listening. This CD is the cure for any bad day, so turn it up, roll down the windows, and press on the gas, because that's what good Rock is all about! - Vexar Entertainment, Memphis, TN 12/04/06 |
