< Back To CD & Stage Review

I miss the days when a CD was more than just a collection of unrelating songs that just happen to be by the same artist. "Castaway" brings back the epicness of the old school LP's. Each song on this CD is a chapter in a much larger story. "Castaway" takes you on a journey of hope, love, and Faith. From the uplifting "If I Could See the Sun" through the inspirational title track to the worldly "Sons of Thunder." "Sons of Thunder" with its African tribal chant transports you to another time and place where you expect to hear Jim Morrison speak about "The Negroes in the forest" and being "stoned immaculate."

Nicar's vocals are some of the strongest I've heard. They obviously come from deep within and make you believe in every word he sings. A large variety of influences can be felt throughout this "Castaway," but the biggest has to be '70's era Blue-eyed Soul made apparent by Nicar's cover of The Doobie Brothers "Taking It To The Streets."

"Castaway" is a perfect collaboration of production, song writing, vocals, and musicianship. - Vexar Entertainment, Memphis, TN 5/01/07
