Assembly

Floor & Walls

TIP: Draw out all your measurements on the floor, because after you start erecting walls, you won't have enough room to get a ruler in there.

1) Cut 1" off the 8" x 21' sheet of plain styrene making it 8" x 20". It will make your section an even measurement and allow you to maximize your foam board since it;s 20" wide. Save the leftover 1" piece. You will use it for other things later.

2) Use the 1" piece to trace a line .080" from the edge of the 8" x 20" piece on the top and bottom. That is the thickness of the walls. You will need this line to place you columns in the correct spot.

3) Take the two 14" x 3/8" diameter plain styrene square tubing, and cut them into four 6" pieces. Take one of the leftover 2" pieces and cut into four 5mm pieces. Sand the ends.

4) Take the four 6" x 12" plain styrene sheets and cut them to 6" x 8". Save the leftover 4" x 6" pieces for later.

5) Take one 6" x 8" piece and draw a .080" line inside of both 6" sides. Glue two of the 6" x 3/8" diameter plain styrene square tubing inside of both lines. Let dry.

6) Glue the 6" x 8" wall with columns to the 8" end of the top of the 8" x 20" floor flush with the edge. Use a table against a wall to make sure you have a 90 degree angle. Glue a 7 1/2" .100 square tube in the joint between the wall and floor to strengthen it. Let dry.

7) Take a second 6" x 8" wall and cut a 4 1/2" high x 3" wide door in the center. Draw a .080" line inside of both 6" sides. Glue two of the 6" x 3/8" diameter plain styrene square tubing inside of both lines. Take one of the 4" x 6" leftover pieces and glue to the right side of the 6" x 8" wall forming a right angle. Let dry.

8) OPTIONAL: For a control panel beside the door, just cut 1/2" off the left over 1" piece from earlier. Cut the 1" x 1/2" piece in half leaving a 1/2" square. Glue the bottom 2 1/2" from the floor, and the left side 1/4" in from the door. Then take a 2 1/2" .100 rod and glue centered vertically under the square to represent electrical conduit. Glue a second 3" .100" rod and glue vertically above the square.

9) Repeat step 8 to glue to the opposite end of the 8" x 20' floor.

10) Take the third 6" x 8" wall and cut in half lengthwise leaving two 3" x 8" pieces.

11) Draw a line horizontally 1 3/4" from the bottom on both 3" x 8" walls and the fourth 6" 8" wall. Glue a 5" .188" diameter plain styrene square tube centered below each line. This is where your table top will rest.

12) Glue the two 3" x 8" walls to the fourth 6" x 8" wall forming a squared "U".

13) Take the leftover 1" piece and cut two pieces 1 3/4" long. Glue these to the opposite ends of the 3" x 8" walls forming 90 degree angles inward. Let dry.

14) Repeat step 8 to glue the walls 8" from the door with the 6" x 8" wall facing the door. Let dry.

15) Cut one 1/4" round tube into five 3/4" pieces. These will be the bases for your chairs. Glue them 2 1/2 " from the wall - two of them 1 1/2" from the ends of the 3" x 8" walls and two of them 3 1/2" from the 6" x 8" wall. Glue the sixth one 4" in and 1 1/2" out on the opposite side of the 6" x 8" wall. Let dry.

16) Take the leftover 4" x 8" pieces and cut three 4" x 2 3/4" pieces. Cut a 1" x 1" square out of the corner of two of them. Glue the higher ends to the 4" 2 3/4" piece forming a squared "U". This will be the sides of security desk. Cut a 1" x 4" strip of plain styrene and glue it across the front of the desk.

17) Repeat step 8 to glue the desk 2" in from the side and 4" in from the door. Let dry.

18) Rinse with warm soapy water to wash off the oil. Let dry.

19) Paint. Use steady even strokes. Let dry. Don't paint the bottom.

20) Use your small cheap paint brush to brush plastic cement on the edge of the 5mm piece and place them on the bottom of the 8" x 2" piece in each corner inside of the .080" line. Let dry.

21) Cut an 8" x 20" section from the foam board. Then cut 1/2" x 1/2" squares from every corner. Remove adhesive backing and adhere to bottom of floor. NOTE: Do NOT adhere foam board to floor until after you've painted. Paint will warp the foam board.

Tables, Chairs, & Computers

1) Cut a 8" x 7 13/16" square from the 8" x 21" black styrene sheet. Then cut a 4" x 6" rectangle from one end of the square. This is your table top. Brush cement around the ledge created for the table. Lay the table in and let dry.

2) Cut a 4" x 1 1/4", and a 4" x 13/16" strips from the 8" x 21" black styrene sheet. These are the tops of the security desk. Glue the 4" x 13/16" horizontally across the lower end of the desk. Glue the 4" x 1 1/4" piece horizontally on the highest end of the desk creating the counter tom of the desk. Let dry.

3) To make the chairs, cut five 1" x 1" black squares, five 1" x 1 1/2" black rectangles, five 1" x 3/8" round tubes, and five 2 3/4" x .100" x .250" plain styrene strips.

4) Take the 2 3/4" strips and hold about 2" over a lighter or candle at the 1 1/4" mark on the strip for about 4 to 5 seconds. The heat will make the strip flexible. Bend the strip almost 90 degrees - not quite 90 because G.I.Joe figures won't sit straight up.

5) Glue the 1" x 1" pieces as the seat and the 1" x 1 1/2" pieces as the back. Then glue the 1" x 3/8" round tubes centered under the bottom. Let dry.

6) When dry, slide the chairs in the 1/4" bases on the floor and you have swivel chairs.

More to come!
