The Simpsons Moviei

"Why pay for something at the movies what we can watch on TV for free?" is one of the first lines spoken from the first animated father of comedy in "The Simpsons Movie." Now, I know when I took this oppurtunity to write for Vexar, I wanted to stick strictly to music, but I have been a Simpsons dork since I was six years old when the show came out. So I wanted to take the time to review the movie, especially since there's no new rock releases that caught my eye this week. So to answer Homer's question, why? Because it's more than worth the eight bucks admission.

This movie was huge over the weekend with colossal earnings taking in more than $71 million, which was more than double what Fox studios had hoped for. This movie was true to the television series, no die-hard Simpsons fan should be disappointed at all. Even with huge jokes being provided in the foreground, if the viewer is willing to look around, you'll see in true Simpsons fashion, more jokes in the background. The movie centers around the subject of an already exsistent problem of pollution in Springfield with Homer providing "the straw that broke the camel's back," which spins a government conspiracy, neighborhood viligance, and even a family move to Alaska. The movie does a wonderful job of bringing out the "cast of thousands" with even smaller characters getting lines and quips in without taking away from the story, we get to hear from Aqu, Moe, and my favorite, Ralph Wiggum. Finally, it does take advantage of looser standards of movies rather than television. For example, there's some flipping off, a little bit of nudity, some bigger shots at government, broadcasting, and religion, and even Marge taking the Lord's name in vain.

The movie does drag a little bit in the middle of the film when the family takes time in Alaska, and there's only one celebrity cameo, one the thing that the Simpsons were known for. But overall, this movie is worth a trip or two to your local Malco (if you live in Memphis). It's a big hit among the hardcore Simpsons fan and you'll even like it if you've never seen one episode. So check this out, it's one of those "definetely worth the eight bucks" trip to the theater.
