Sinister grin

What's up folks? It was a big weekend for me this weekend between work and two shows, I'm now running low on sleep, but nevertheless, I'm here and I want to let you know about some friends of mine, Sinister Grin.

This weekend my brothers and I in Life By Inches got to close the show at the Poplar Lounge with Sinister Grin. It was a great show, nice little intimate setting for a rock bar. The guys kicked off the set with the title track from their CD "Medicine", tight intro and everything sounded great. This is straight-forward rock, very rhytmic and with some tight vocal harmonies. I quickly noticed that one of my favorite things about "The Grin" is how seamlessly Val and Brandon's vocals blend together. The guys played a solid set of originals and threw in some good covers, even if it was the first time that tried playing them together. They even invited Brian Hughes from Life By Inches to sing on "Shine". Other cover tunes included "Hard Day's Night" and "Twilight Zone".

All in all, this was a great night and lot of fun. The only issue I had with the show was the stage, I would have loved to have seen these guys on a bigger stage and see more stage presence. This is definetely another Memphis band that people need to check out, it's definetely worth the cover charge. Also, the Poplar Lounge is a good place to check out some shows in a more intimate setting, you're ears won't get blown out by a large P.A. and apparently they make great Caramel Kiss shots, a big hit among the frontmen in Sinister Grin.

Stay tuned folks, in the next weeks I'll be reviewing Nikki Sixx's new side project "Sixx A.M." and a follow-up review on Rush and their show in Saint Louis.
