Hello kiddies, it's been a while. Between work and school and Life By Inches and life with my fiance, life has been kicking my butt. In addition, it has been the slowest time for good rock releases. But after hours of scanning through iTunes, I've managed to check out The Cult's "Born Into This." So let's quit wasting time complaining and get into it. I've been a casual fan of the Cult, I dug "Fire Woman", "She Sells Sanctuary", and "Painted on My Heart." But this CD has a great selection of songs on it. Enough to make me purchase the album, not just the single "Dirty Little Rockstar." However, you can understand how "Dirty Little Rockstar" was chosen to be the first released single. It's got a gritty bass sound, solid percussion groove, great guitar lines, and of course, that indistinguishable voice. Other great tracks on this CD include "War Pony Destroyer", with it distorted groove-rock feel; "Stand Alone", offering a progressive-rock build and almost power balladesque sound; and "I Assasin" with a return to rock and roll roots, you'll hear it when you give it a listen, hard to describe. Finally, the title track "Born Into This" is pure Cult sound, this is the type of song that got you digging on this band to begin with. Once again, bottom line, check it out, it's worth it. Have I ever steered you wrong? *If I have actually steered you wrong, it's an opinion piece, get over it. Later kids. Discuss this review in the Vexar Forums here. |
